Aaron Rodgers ”Pittsburgh Steelers” Star Receive Shock After Joshua Metellus Bold Decision

Fresh off inking a three-year, $36 million extension with the Vikings, Josh Metellus already has a particular matchup circled on Minnesota’s 2025 regular season schedule.
Appearing on the NFL Spotlight podcast with Ari Meirov, Metellus was asked how he felt about the Vikings ultimately passing on signing Aaron Rodgers, who was heavily linked to the team during the offseason.
“A-Rod was my favorite quarterback growing up. I only watched the NFC North for two guys: A-Rod and Adrian Peterson,” Metellus said. “In my rookie year, we played Green Bay and he threw a touchdown — the first one he ever threw on me. I’m honestly glad we didn’t sign him, because I want the chance to intercept him before he retires.”
Metellus was referencing a moment from his rookie year in 2020, when Aaron Rodgers threw a touchdown to then-Packers receiver Davante Adams — a play where Metellus was in coverage. Five years later, that memory still fuels his motivation.
“I can’t let my favorite player growing up embarrass me like that,” Metellus added. “I’ve got to get him back. I’m really glad we didn’t sign him.”
He’ll get his shot on September 28, when the Vikings face Rodgers and his new team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, in Dublin, Ireland. Rodgers has thrown 116 interceptions in his illustrious career, and Metellus is hoping he can snag one more before the future Hall of Famer retires.
Despite offseason speculation linking Minnesota to Rodgers, Sam Darnold, and others, the Vikings ultimately stuck with rookie J.J. McCarthy as their starting quarterback. They also bolstered the depth chart by trading for Sam Howell and signing former Minnesota Gophers QB Max Brosmer as an undrafted free agent.
