Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan is a quarterback guru and knows that who the team had under center last season will not cut it in the NFL. Fortunately, the team has the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft at their disposal this offseason, but there is no consensus that new general manager Mike Borgonzi loves either quarterback prospect at the top of the board.
This could trigger Tennessee to dip into the free agent market for a signal-caller, which may cost them a bit more but provide a more immediate impact. Ben Rolfe from Pro Football Network recently predicted that the Titans would go this route and sign Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson during free agency.
There is no guarantee that Wilson will be available because Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin still has to decide between paying him or Justin Fields. But if Pittsburgh lets Wilson walk, Tennessee could add no matter what they choose to do in the draft.
“(The Titans) are expected to take a quarterback with the first overall pick,” wrote Rolfe. “But whether it is Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, there is no guarantee that they will be ready to start in 2025.
Therefore, the Titans could need a bridge quarterback this season.” Wilson is nothing more than a bridge quarterback at this point in his career, but he proved last season that he can still be a solid contributor. Even if he is far from his 2013 Super Bowl form, he is a definite upgrade from Will Levis and would be a good mentor to any young quarterback that the Titans draft.
