Texas Longhorns receive big news on Friday morning

Voice of the Texas Longhorns Craig Way has been named the recipient of 50th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Russell D. Anderson/Wilbur Snypp Award for national contributions to college baseball, the organization announced.

Way is currently in his 24th season as the play-by-play voice of Texas baseball.

He began working on Longhorns radio broadcasts in 1988, as the network’s studio anchor and served as analyst on football and basketball broadcasts from 1992-2001. Way became Texas’ play-by-play voice of women’s basketball in 1997, before assuming play-by-play duties on football, men’s basketball and baseball in 2002.

Throughout his nearly five-decade broadcasting career, Way has been inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame, earned a pair of Texas Sportscaster of the Year honors from the National Sports Media Association and garnered seven Lone Star Emmy Awards.

Way has also collected recognition from the National Football Foundation/College Football Hall of Fame Austin NFF Chapter and the Texas High School Coaches Association.

He has called more than 200 state title games in football and basketball on TV, broadcasting more than 5,000 high school football, basketball and baseball games on TV and radio.

Way has been in the booth for some of the greatest moments in Longhorns history, including the 2002 and 2005 college baseball national championships, the 2005 BCS Rose Bowl, the NCAA Final Four, among other national events.
