Yankees fans embarrassed themselves on Giancarlo Stanton flyout

The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers began a three-game series at Yankee Stadium on Friday night. In the bottom of the eighth inning, designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton electrified the crowd.

With the bases loaded and the game tied, Stanton made contact with a fastball from Blake Treinen, sending it soaring towards left field. The fans erupted, believing a grand slam had been hit to break the game wide open.

However, to their disappointment, Stanton had slightly misjudged the hit. Despite the familiar sound of the bat, the ball ended up being nothing more than a flyout.

Whoops!

Yankees supporters were left disappointed as the ball failed to even reach the warning track. This disappointment might be attributed to announcer Michael Kay, who often amplifies flyouts or doubles to sound like potential homers.

The situation didn’t improve for the Yankees or their fans as they eventually succumbed to the Dodgers, 2-1, after 11 innings. This defeat halted an eight-game winning streak and allowed the Philadelphia Phillies to claim the best record in baseball (44-19).

Giancarlo Stanton wrapped up the game with a 0-for-5 performance and three strikeouts.

The Yankees and Dodgers will pick up their three-game series on Saturday night, with fans hopeful for a turnaround.
