The Kansas City Royals struggled to figure out Seattle Mariners starter Logan Gilbert for most of the game, but a three-run homer by Nelson Velázquez in the 7th inning proved to be the difference in their comeback win at T-Mobile Field.
On the other hand, Royals starter Michael Wacha had a strong outing, allowing only one run and striking out seven batters through six innings. Wacha’s performance, combined with the Royals’ four late-game runs, earned him his second straight win and third of the season, improving his record to 3-4.
The 4-2 victory evened the three-game series at one game apiece. The Royals and Mariners will face off in the series finale today at 3:10 p.m. CDT.
Alec Marsh is set to start for the KC Royals.
Marsh will make his seventh start of the season, boasting a 3-0 record and a 2.53 ERA. He returned from the Injured List with an impressive performance against the Angels, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing one run, and striking out seven batters to secure a win.
Who will be the starting pitcher for the Mariners.
Last Friday, the Mariners saw the return of Bryan Woo, who had been sidelined all season due to an elbow problem. Despite not pitching long enough to be eligible for a win, he started the game and kept Oakland from scoring for 4.1 innings. Today marks his second start.
Woo, a right-handed pitcher, made his MLB debut last season, where he posted a 4-5 record with a 4.21 ERA in 18 appearances. He has not faced the Royals in his career before.
The Kansas City Royals’ lineup features Maikel Garcia at 3B, Bobby Witt Jr. at SS, Vinnie Pasquantino at 1B, Salvador Perez at C, Michael Massey at 2B, Nelson Velazquez at DH, MJ Melendez at LF, Hunter Renfroe at RF, and Kyle Isbel at CF.
