JUST IN: Chiefs Take Critical Decision On “TOP-TIER” 26-Year-Old RB

The Kansas City Chiefs have decided to part ways with running back La’Mical Perine, a former fourth-round pick of the New York Jets. Perine spent over a year with the Chiefs, joining the team in January 2023 and seeing limited action last season. Perine’s most notable contribution came in a Week 18 matchup against the Chargers, where he carried the ball 21 times for 76 yards. He was active for the Chiefs’ three AFC playoff games, primarily contributing on special teams, but was not dressed for Super Bowl LVIII.

The Chiefs have not yet re-signed veteran running back Jerick McKinnon, who remains a free agent. They also did not select a running back in the 2024 NFL Draft. Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who has struggled to live up to his first-round draft status, has re-signed with the team and is expected to back up Isiah Pacheco.Perine, 26, spent his first two NFL seasons with the Jets before brief stints with the Eagles and Dolphins. Unless the Chiefs decide to bring him back again, it is unclear who will fill the RB3 role for the team in 2024. The Chiefs’ current running back depth chart includes Keaontay Ingram, Deneric Prince, Louis Rees-Zammit, Carson Steele, and Emani Bailey.
