Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans Vows to Tackle Tough Challenges Ahead
As Rotherham United’s recently-returned manager, Steve Evans is under no illusions about the daunting task that lies ahead. Following the Millers’ relegation, Evans is determined to plot a route back to the Championship, and he says the hard work starts now.
In the wake of Rotherham’s 2-0 defeat against Bristol City, Evans acknowledged that his team was clearly second-best on the day. Goals from Tommy Conway and Scott Twine extended the home side’s unbeaten run to seven games, leaving the long-relegated Millers with little to show for their efforts.
However, Evans was proud of the way his players stuck to their task, even in the face of Bristol City’s technical superiority. He singled out a key moment when Tom Eaves had a great chance to open the scoring, suggesting that the game could have taken a different turn had Rotherham taken the lead.
Nonetheless, Evans is under no illusions about the work that needs to be done. He revealed that he is preparing a document for Rotherham’s chairman, Tony Stewart, outlining his views and plans to get the club back into the Championship. The manager promised to be “brutally honest” in his assessment, and he emphasized that the real work will begin once the document is delivered next week.
“This is one of the biggest challenges I have taken on, but I am confident that we can bounce back next season,” said Evans. “I will deliver the document next week and then the hard work begins.”
Despite the disappointment of the defeat, Evans remains optimistic about Rotherham’s future. With a clear plan in place and a determination to tackle the challenges head-on, the Millers’ supporters can take heart in the manager’s unwavering commitment to the cause.
