Houston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander is nearing his return to the team’s rotation after completing a few rehab starts. He expressed his readiness to start a game sometime this week. Verlander mentioned that he feels close to his desired pitch count and has been recovering well from his previous injury.
During Spring Training, Verlander had to gradually increase his workload due to the injury, but now he is recovering better and finding certain tasks easier. Verlander acknowledged that he has met all the necessary requirements and is prepared to pitch again, whether it be for the Astros or another team’s decision.
This is positive news for the struggling Astros, as their pitching staff has been underperforming in the early season. Additionally, the absence of Verlander, coupled with an injury to Framber Valdez, has further impacted the team. Valdez’s injury is significant because he was expected to be the team’s ace in Verlander’s absence. If both Verlander and Valdez can stay healthy, they would form a strong duo in the Astros’ rotation later in the season.
The Houston Astros have had a slow start to the season with a 6-11 record, largely due to the challenges faced by their pitching staff, including the injuries to Verlander and Valdez. It is understandable considering the key absences.
However, the team aims to prevent further setbacks during the remainder of April and May. The Astros managed to win two out of three games against their rival, the Texas Rangers, over the weekend, which they hope will bring some positive momentum into their upcoming series against the Atlanta Braves. There is anticipation for Verlander’s return to the team after completing a few rehab starts.
