JUST IN: New York Jets have been identified as the top choice for a quarterback who is currently dealing with an injury

The New York Jets, known for having multiple quarterbacks on the roster, are seen as the top choice for injured draft prospect Jordan Travis despite already having options behind Aaron Rodgers.

According to Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski, Travis, a notable injured prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft from Florida State, could be a promising addition for a team like the Jets dealing with an aging or uncertain quarterback situation. With Rodgers nearing 41 years old and coming back from a serious injury, the Jets may be eyeing Travis as a potential long-term successor.

Jordan Travis is still in the process of recuperation.

Travis endured a severe injury during the 2023 college football season, among the most memorable. However, it appears that he will be prepared for his debut season in the NFL.

The Seminoles seemed poised to contend in the College Football Playoff with an unbeaten streak until Travis’s unfortunate incident. The 23-year-old quarterback sustained a leg injury that ended his season while playing against North Alabama after getting tangled up.

Travis brought encouraging updates to both fans and scouts during the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis regarding his recovery.

When speaking about NFL teams, Travis mentioned that the primary inquiry revolves around his health status. He confidently stated, “I’m going to be healthy, a hundred percent… My goal is to be ready by May. That’s my target. May or June, so I’m prepared for it.”

Travis’s progress remains positive as he has been observed throwing passes in preparation for the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. Additionally, he has arranged a visit with the Jets as part of the top-30 visits, hinting at the team’s potential interest in him as a backup quarterback.

Would the Jets Benefit from Having Another Backup Quarterback?

While the current backup quarterback situation for the Jets might not appear pressing, investing in a long-term project could be a strategic move for the team.

Even though Tyrod Taylor has recently inked a two-year contract with the Jets to primarily support Rodgers, he is 34 years old and considered a journeyman quarterback, approaching the tail end of his NFL journey.

Zach Wilson was originally envisioned as the future successor to Rodgers, with the expectation that learning from a future Hall of Famer would boost his confidence. However, circumstances led to Wilson being thrust back into the starting role prematurely, limiting his ability to showcase himself as a long-term solution.

Presently, there are reports that the Jets are actively exploring trade options for Wilson. General manager Joe Douglas has acknowledged receiving trade offers but clarified that no deal is imminent.

Should the Jets end up trading Wilson, it would be more logical for them to target a developmental quarterback in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, such as Travis.
