For a long time, the Jacksonville Jaguars stood out in the AFC South. However, the Houston Texans are now aiming to become the leading team in the division. The Jaguars have been quite busy in the offseason, bringing in several players to enhance their team. Although they haven’t made any major acquisitions, the smaller signings can often make a significant difference. Their latest addition is Josiah Deguara, a former tight end for the Green Bay Packers, who is seen as another understated yet potentially impactful move.
Jacksonville Jaguars include tight end Josiah Deguara to their lineup.
Deguara, selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers, faced challenges in establishing himself with the team. Over his four-year tenure, he accrued just 436 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Although primarily recruited as a blocking tight end, he did not stand out in that aspect either. It is possible that his difficulties stemmed from playing alongside quarterback Aaron Rodgers in his initial years, as Rodgers tended to have a strained rapport with rookie players. The Packers signified a clear indication of moving on from Deguara by drafting Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft last year, both of whom outperformed Deguara easily.
Will the Jaguars be able to defeat the Texans?
Houston seems poised to dominate the division in the upcoming decade. CJ Stroud shows promise as a cornerstone quarterback. The team has made bold moves in the offseason, adding talent on offense and defense to support their young QB. Jacksonville must prove that their performance in 2023 was just a bump in the road. Trevor Lawrence remains one of the top quarterbacks in the league, and the defense appears strong. They just need to step up their game.
The Jacksonville Jaguars aspire to maximize Josiah Deguara’s potential beyond what the Packers achieved. Will this team be able to secure a playoff spot in 2024?
