What will be the initial steps for the Los Angeles Chargers as they usher in the Jim Harbaugh era?
According to ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. and his recent 2024 NFL mock draft, the Los Angeles Chargers are preparing to address the significant gap created by the departures of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, both of whom the team parted ways with. In Kiper Jr.’s updated mock draft, the Chargers are projected to choose the talented LSU receiver Malik Nabers with the 5th overall pick in the upcoming April draft.
“The Chargers’ salary cap crunch led to the release of Mike Williams and trade of Keenan Allen, leaving the wide receiver corps depleted. They can’t go into the season with Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston, who disappointed as a rookie last season, as their top two wideouts. So as much as right tackle could still be in play, this is the spot to nab a receiver to be Justin Herbert’s No. 1 target.”
In any other draft class, Nabers and Rome Odunze would be the far-and-away top-ranked wideouts — but this isn’t any other draft class. There likely will be three taken in the top 10 and a handful of others throughout Round 1. This is an extremely talented group. What I like about Nabers is his ability to create separation and then break tackles after the catch. He’s a fantastic player.”
Los Angeles Chargers Eager for the Jim Harbaugh Era After a season marred by injuries in 2023, the Los Angeles Chargers are gearing up for a new chapter. Brandon Stanley was let go on ‘Black Monday,’ the day following the conclusion of the 2023 NFL regular season. Shortly after clinching a National Championship with the Michigan Wolverines, Jim Harbaugh departed Ann Arbor for Los Angeles, also known as ‘The City of Angels.’ Harbaugh brought in Jesse Minter from Michigan to lead the defense and hired Kellen Moore as the team’s new offensive coordinator.
With the coaching staff now established, the Chargers are shifting their focus to roster management, potential cuts, and their upcoming fifth overall pick in the forthcoming April NFL Draft.
