Arik Armstead Signs With Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars displayed a high level of aggression on Friday, particularly in their defensive lineup. They made a bold move by adding Arik Armstead, a seasoned player with a strong track record in the postseason and a first-round draft pedigree.
Armstead, who spent nine seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, officially joined the Jaguars as announced on Friday, just two days into the 2024 NFL League Year. As the 17th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Armstead started in 97 out of 116 games during his time with the 49ers.
He accumulated 33.5 sacks over his tenure, including five in the previous season and a career-best of 10 in 2019. Additionally, he has appeared in 12 playoff games, recording eight sacks – the second-highest in 49ers franchise history for postseason performance.
Earlier this week, the Jaguars inked deals with five free agents from different squads:
Cornerback Ronald Darby from the Baltimore Ravens, safety Darnell Savage Jr. from the Green Bay Packers, wide receiver/returner Devin Duvernay from the Ravens, wide receiver Gabe Davis from the Buffalo Bills, and center Mitch Morse from the Bills were among the players signed. Additionally, on Thursday, quarterback Mac Jones was officially obtained as a backup from the New England Patriots through a trade.
