TRADE ALERT: Ex-Red Wings forward off the block, re-signing with Blues

Oskar Sundqvist, a former forward for the Detroit Red Wings, was once again in a position where he was likely to be traded at the trade deadline for the third consecutive year.

On Thursday, Oskar Sundqvist chose to sign a two-year contract extension worth 775,000.

Sundqvist, a player with good size and versatility, is capable of playing both center and wing positions as well as contributing to both special teams. In his second term with the St. Louis Blues, he has registered six goals and 15 assists in 62 games.

In 2022, the Red Wings added Sundqvist and defenseman Jake Walman to their team by trading defenseman Nick Leddy. Sundqvist then participated in 70 games spanning two seasons with Detroit, scoring 11 goals and providing 18 assists. He was later traded to Minnesota at the previous year’s deadline in exchange for a 2023 fourth-round pick.
