TRADE ALERT: Coyotes trade Defenseman to Oilers for draft pick

After a period of inactivity where the Arizona Coyotes didn’t engage in any trades, they have finally made a move before the NHL Trade Deadline on Friday.

As reported by Elliotte Friedman, a reputable NHL insider from Sportsnet, Arizona has traded defenseman Troy Stecher and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick.

After being traded to the Calgary Flames by the Arizona Coyotes last season ahead of the deadline, defenseman Troy Stecher made a return to the ‘Yotes this season. In his initial tenure with Arizona, he notched seven assists, 85 blocks, and 57 hits across 61 games.

Following a stint in Calgary, Stecher chose to re-sign with Arizona on a one-year deal. In his comeback with the Coyotes, the Canadian player participated in 47 games, scoring a goal, registering four assists, making 67 blocks, and delivering 52 hits this season.

As an eight-year NHL veteran, Stecher has competed in 487 games, tallying 19 goals, 89 assists, 550 blocks, and 510 hits in his career. Despite facing a lower-body injury in January, Stecher managed to return before the conclusion of his second season with Arizona, which ultimately concluded with another trade.

Recognized for his defensive skills, Stecher is known as a defenseman who adds reliability and speed to the Edmonton Oilers’ roster as they strive for a playoff push.

This trade is just the initial in a series of moves anticipated from the Coyotes. The NHL Trade Deadline is set to close at 1 p.m. MST tomorrow afternoon.
