Want to feel old? One of the best NFL players of the 2000s-2010s, Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders tight end Jason Witten now has a son who is one of the top high school football prospects in Texas, and this week, he announced an offer from the Texas Tech football program.

Cooper Witten, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound safety in the class of 2027 is on the Red Raiders’ radar and it is easy to see why. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 34 overall player and the No. 2 safety in the nation.

The Argyle, Texas native has already amassed quite the offer list. In addition to Texas Tech, he holds offers from the likes of Auburn, Baylor, Kansas State, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and West Virginia among others.

Of course, his father is one of the most successful Tennessee Volunteer alums to ever play in the NFL. Jason Witten was a first-team All-SEC tight end for Tennessee in 2002 before being selected in the third round of the 2003 draft by the Dallas Cowboys.

In his 17-year NFL career, Witten racked up 1,228 catches for 13,046 yards and 74 touchdowns. A four-time All-Pro selection and 11-time Pro Bowler, Witten is destined for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Now, he’s the head coach at Liberty Christian School, a private school that has won two Texas state championships in a row. And obviously, Cooper Witten has been a big part of that success.

The fact that he is still a sophomore and he’s already racking up offers from programs from across the country tells us all we need to know about how he’s viewed as a prospect. Of course, it also means that the competition to land him will be fierce.

Texas Tech has thrown its hat in that ring. Now, we will see if head coach Joey McGuire and Co. can make progress with Witten and develop the type of relationship that will give them a real shot at landing this blue-chip prospect.
