The Raptors have confirmed a contract extension to retain Olynyk, whom they acquired during the trade deadline, ensuring he remains with the team and avoiding him becoming a free agent this summer. The agreement is for two years and is valued at $26.25 million, the maximum allowed by the Raptors, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

“We have admired Kelly’s playing style for a considerable period and are excited that he will continue his career in Toronto,” stated Raptors General Manager Bobby Webster. “In addition to his exceptional skill set and capacity to spread the floor, Kelly serves as a leader and contributes a veteran presence to our team.”
In the nine games he has played as a substitute for the Raptors, Olynyk has maintained an average of 9.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Olynyk’s playing style naturally complements the team due to his ability to create space on the floor and draw opposing big men away from the paint, thereby creating driving opportunities for Scottie Barnes and Pascal Siakam
The Raptors have secured Olynyk’s contract, but they face several other choices this summer, beginning with determining the contract terms for restricted free agent Immanuel Quickley. Additionally, they need to decide on whether to exercise the team option for Bruce Brown. Masai Ujiri and the front office have the opportunity to free up significant cap space and make further adjustments to the roster, or they can choose to retain much of the current group and assess their performance when fully healthy over a complete season.
The upcoming offseason in Toronto promises to be intriguing, with the certainty that Olynyk will be returning to the team adding to the anticipation.
