The Colorado Rockies announced Saturday that they have traded for outfielder Jake McCarthy, acquiring him from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for minor league pitcher Josh Grosz.

McCarthy, 28, spent five seasons with Arizona and earned a fourth-place finish in National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2022 after batting .283 with eight home runs, 43 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases.
After that breakout campaign, McCarthy struggled last season, hitting .204 with four home runs and 20 RBIs. He was originally selected in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of the University of Virginia.
Grosz, 23, joined the Rockies organization last summer as part of the trade that sent third baseman Ryan McMahon to the New York Yankees. The right-hander posted a 5–14 record with a 4.67 ERA at the High-A level while pitching for Hudson Valley and Spokane.
Grosz was drafted in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of East Carolina University.
