Kirby Smart, Georgia loses Another Huge commitment Battle To A Rival Team

The Georgia Bulldogs have built a reputation as a powerhouse on the recruiting trail, but things don’t always go smoothly in Athens.

Even Kirby Smart and his staff occasionally come up short in recruiting battles, and from time to time, they see a commitment slip away.

That happened again in the 2027 class, as news broke Tuesday that three-star interior offensive lineman Kyson Mallard of Albany, Georgia, has backed off his pledge.

Big thanks Georgia and Kirby for the opportunity and I really appreciate it however after a lot of prayers and talking I have decide to decommit and reopen my recruitment,” Mallard wrote on X.

Mallard had been pledged to Georgia since September 2025, making the decision somewhat surprising. However, his commitment came very early in the process for a 2027 prospect, so it’s possible he jumped the gun with his original choice.

He also holds close to 20 scholarship offers, giving him plenty of options moving forward.

When he announced the decommitment, graphics from Florida, Auburn, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Ole Miss, NC State, Pitt, and Florida State were included. Georgia’s logo was also part of the post, suggesting the Bulldogs may still remain in the mix.

Mallard stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 310 pounds. He is rated as the No. 27 interior offensive lineman in the 2027 class by the 247Sports Composite.
