Matt Rhule and Nebraska football confirm unexpected, heartbreaking news as another key player enters the transfer portal

Another Husker linebacker entered the transfer portal on Monday.

Nebraska reserve linebacker Stefon Thompson has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer, per a source.

Thompson spent one season at Nebraska after beginning his career at Syracuse and will have one season of eligibility at his next destination.

The 6-foot-1, 240-pound Thompson appeared in 11 games for Nebraska this season, making 27 tackles, breaking up two passes and recovering one fumble.

Thompson had arguably his best game against Wisconsin, making three tackles and recovering a fumble that set up a Husker field goal.

Thompson is the second reserve defensive player to enter the transfer portal on Monday, following defensive lineman Vincent Jackson.

Thompson was among the players with eligibility remaining who went through Senior Day ceremonies prior to Nebraska’s matchup with Wisconsin.
