Paige Bueckers and Geno Auriemma commented on Azzi Fudd’s standout performance in UConn’s win against Ole Miss.
On Wednesday, the UConn women’s basketball team triumphed over Ole Miss with a score of 73-60. While Paige Bueckers stole the spotlight by scoring 29 points, Azzi Fudd, who has just come back from injury, made a strong impact with 18 points, four rebounds, and an assist. After the game, UConn head coach Geno Auriemma spoke about Fudd’s impressive performance, as reported by UConn on SNY.
“We anticipated that eventually she would find her comfort level,” Auriemma said about Fudd. “It just requires some patience. I was even surprised at how comfortable and aggressive she appeared. Given the effort she’s put in and the time she’s dedicated, this might be the best shape she’s been in since her junior year of high school. I was really pleased to see her out there doing what she loves.”
“She made Azzi Fudd plays. People know, like, she’s a great shooter, but I don’t think they realize what a terrific basketball player she is and how many different things she can do.”
“Honestly it’s a little weird just because we’ve wanted to for so long and now it’s actually reality,” Bueckers said of playing with Fudd once again, via UConn on SNY. “I feel like this is the first game where it kind of sunk in… She played a lot more, she looked like her aggressive self. Even the games we have played, I feel like we both weren’t 100 percent, so we’re getting there.
