Major Roster Move: Colts sign two super talents to bolster squad depth; release T Sebastian Gutierrez, DE Derek Rivers from the practice squad

The Indianapolis Colts signed cornerback and defensive end to their practice squad today while releasing tackle Sebastian Gutierrez and defensive end Derek Rivers from the practice squad.

Flowers, standing at 6-3 and weighing 200 pounds, spent Weeks 9-12 on the Colts’ practice squad after joining the team on October 29, 2024. He has played in 94 career games (44 starts) across his time with the Colts (2024), Jacksonville Jaguars (2024), Atlanta Falcons (2023), Cincinnati Bengals (2021-22), and Seattle Seahawks (2018-21). Flowers has recorded 270 tackles (211 solo), 4 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 22 passes defensed, 4 interceptions, 5 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, and 16 special teams stops. He has also appeared in 10 playoff games (3 starts), tallying 20 tackles (16 solo), 2 passes defensed, and 5 special teams stops. Flowers was originally drafted by the Seahawks in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma State.

Nchami, who is 6-4 and weighs 258 pounds, took part in the Denver Broncos’ offseason program and training camp in 2024. He was initially signed to the Broncos’ practice squad on December 6, 2023. At Maryland (2018-22), Nchami played in 33 games (14 starts) and recorded 50 tackles (32 solo), 17.5 tackles for loss, 9.0 sacks, 1 pass defensed, 4 forced fumbles, and 1 blocked kick. His last name is pronounced en-CHA-mee.

Gutierrez, measuring 6-6 and 310 pounds, was added to the Colts’ practice squad on October 28, 2024. He has previously been part of the practice squads for the Cleveland Browns (2024), San Francisco 49ers (2023-24), Las Vegas Raiders (2022-23), and New England Patriots (2022). He also had stints with the Kansas City Chiefs (2023) and the Broncos (2022) and played in one game with the Raiders in 2022. Gutierrez was initially signed by the Broncos as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022, out of Minot State.

Rivers, standing at 6-5 and weighing 250 pounds, spent Weeks 4-12 on the Colts’ practice squad. He participated in the 2024 training camp with the team. Throughout his career, Rivers has played in 24 games (1 start) for the Colts (2023-24), Houston Texans (2021-23), Los Angeles Rams (2020), and New England Patriots (2017-20), registering 16 tackles (11 solo), 5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. He has also seen action in three postseason games, recording one special teams tackle. Rivers was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round (83rd overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft from Youngstown State.
