The Lincoln East graduate, who has been redshirting this season, is no longer part of the Huskers’ program. Nebraska coach Matt Rhule announced the news on Monday, stating, “He came in and let us know he was gonna go in the portal. Wish him the best. Great young man. Local guy. Had some big moments for us last year.”
Rhule mentioned he anticipates that the team will see between 30 and 50 players enter the transfer portal due to necessary changes within the program.
Shortly after the announcement, the player took to social media to address Husker fans. “I want to take this moment to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this journey,” he shared. He went on to thank his coaches, teammates, family, and fans, adding, “With that being said, after careful consideration, prayer and reflection on my goals and future, I have made the difficult decision to enter the transfer portal. This decision was not taken lightly, and while it’s bittersweet, I believe this will allow me to reach new heights and pursue my goals with renewed purpose.”
Earlier in the season, over 100 players took the field for the Huskers in a game against UTEP. When the receiver was not among them, Rhule was asked about his contributions. He noted that the player had stepped up the previous year and, despite the need for depth at receiver, had the opportunity to redshirt this season.
Rhule pointed out that the team had new receivers, stating, “We have these two big receivers out there that are playing well,” referring to transfer players Jahmal Banks and Isaiah Neyor. He emphasized that if the player had the chance to play this year, he could still contribute later in the season.
In 11 games, Banks and Neyor have led the team in receiving yards and have each scored multiple touchdowns, while the departing player saw action in only one game, where he nearly blocked a punt on special teams.
As a true freshman, he participated in 11 games and started six, recording eight receptions for 139 yards and one touchdown. He was known for his effective blocking as a 6-5, 210-pound target, an area where the team has struggled this season.
The player was the top-ranked recruit for the Huskers in 2023, joining fellow signees Eric Fields, Ethan Natio, and Syncere Safeeullah, who also did not last two years within the football program at Nebraska.
