The most significant news for Michigan’s 2024 season emerged off the field this week, as the Wolverines secured a commitment from Bryce Underwood, the top player in the 2025 signing class and a quarterback from Belleville, Michigan. This achievement followed months of efforts by Michigan to persuade the local five-star recruit, who had been committed to LSU since January, to change his mind. In addition to a rumored NIL package exceeding $10 million, the Wolverines enlisted the help of Tom Brady, a local hero, to finalize the commitment, as reported by CBS Sports.
Brady and Underwood initially connected through FaceTime a few weeks back, and their relationship developed from that point, with Brady expressing his willingness to serve as a continuous resource for the young quarterback.
Brady played at Michigan in the late ’90s, where he famously worked his way up the depth chart to become the starting quarterback and guided the Wolverines to an Orange Bowl victory at the end of the 1999 season. He would later achieve remarkable success in the NFL, winning seven Super Bowls throughout his career.
Underwood’s decision to commit to Michigan surprised many, as he appeared to be favoring a continued commitment to LSU. Just a week before changing his mind, he even mentioned on social media that he was likely to reject the substantial NIL offer from the Wolverines.

A week later, the situation shifted dramatically. Although it wasn’t the sole reason, Tom Brady’s role in recruiting the five-star quarterback from Michigan played a significant part in achieving one of the program’s most notable recruiting successes in its recent history.
Bryce Underwood Scouting Overview As per On3, here’s their assessment of Underwood as a prospect: “Underwood showcases outstanding arm talent and is considered one of the most gifted high school quarterback prospects in recent years.
