Travis Green issues bold statement about next 10 games for Senators

The Ottawa Senators appointed Travis Green as their new head coach on a four-year contract in May 2024. Green previously coached the Vancouver Canucks from 2017 to 2021 and served as the interim head coach for the New Jersey Devils for 21 games last season.

As of now, the Senators hold an 8-8-1 record through 17 games in the 2024-25 season. They have lost their last two matches, including a recent 4-0 defeat to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, and are set to begin a four-game home stand tomorrow night against the Edmonton Oilers.

Despite the recent setbacks, Green remains optimistic. Ahead of the game against the Oilers, he made a confident statement regarding his team’s potential in the NHL.

Green stated that the Senators will exceed a .500 record if they continue to perform as they have in their next 10 games, according to TSN 1200 after the Senators’ practice today.

Green says over the next 10 games if they play the way they’ve been playing, he thinks they will be above .500

Next 10 Games on Senators Schedule:

  • Tomorrow vs Edmonton Oilers
  • Thursday vs Vegas Golden Knights
  • Saturday vs Vancouver Canucks
  • Nov. 25 vs Calgary Flames
  • Nov. 27 @ San Jose Sharks
  • Nov. 30 @ Los Angeles Kings
  • Dec. 1 @ Anaheim Ducks
  • Dec. 5 vs Detroit Red Wings
  • Dec. 7 vs Nashville Predators
  • Dec. 8 vs New York Islanders

Expectations are high for Green and the Senators this season. This statement emphasizes that Green not only believes in his team but also wants to win.

Seven of the next ten games on the Senators’ schedule will be played at home, where they currently have a strong 5-2-1 record. However, they previously lost to the Golden Knights and Islanders, both of which are on the upcoming schedule. Notably, if the playoffs began today, five teams (Oilers, Golden Knights, Canucks, Flames, and Kings) would qualify for the 2025 playoffs.

As it stands, the Senators would be out of the 2025 playoffs with only 17 points. The Eastern Conference standings are tightening as each game is played. Despite two recent losses, the Senators’ offense has applied significant pressure, although their defense and goaltending have struggled.

A positive note for the Senators in the next ten games is that only three are on the road. While they have a shaky 3-6-0 road record, two of the road teams, the Sharks and Ducks, would not make the playoffs if the season ended today, as both are currently under .500 in the Western Conference.

Green remains confident in the Senators despite the two consecutive losses. If he believes the team can achieve a winning record in the next ten games given their current performance, tomorrow’s matchup against the Oilers carries added intensity. Puck drop for tomorrow’s game is at 7 p.m. ET at Canadian Tire Centre.
