Veteran Husker running back not available against Trojans
The team will be missing a key running back in their matchup against USC on Saturday. The senior player sustained an injury prior to the bye week during Nebraska’s loss to UCLA.
Also listed as out on the Big Ten availability report are several teammates, including a kicker and two offensive linemen, all dealing with long-term injuries. Nebraska is looking to revitalize its offense under the guidance of Dana Holgorsen, who will be calling the plays.
Head coach Matt Rhule expressed optimism about his team’s mentality coming out of the bye week, noting that some veteran players had the opportunity to recover. Cornerback Tommi Hill, in particular, is expected to perform at his best since a plantar fascia injury hindered his season after the initial games.
“I also think that we have to get to the point here pretty quickly that it’s not this reactionary. We were down 14-6 at Ohio State and our locker room was electric. We were down 13-7 to UCLA and our locker room was blah,” Rhule commented about his team’s mindset. “I have to find the most competitive guys on the team and get them out there and turn them loose. You go through this process, you’re teaching and teaching and teaching, then you finally get to the point where the players take it and run with it.”
Regarding the decision to bring in Holgorsen, he stated, “I made this move that I made and I’ll make any other move I have to make. The players have to make moves. They have to play their best football moving forward. They have to go to USC and come home and play Wisconsin, then go to Iowa. They have to play three games and play their best football. We shouldn’t be in a great mood right now. We should be a little pissed off.”
The injured player is Rahmir Johnson
