Houston has secured a commitment from a highly-touted senior recruit who ranks as the No. 18 player in the national class, according to the 247Sports Channel. Coach Kelvin Sampson is successfully building a recruiting class that is shaping up to be among the best in the nation.
This evening, the talented player announced his decision to join the Cougars. He expressed enthusiasm for Houston’s winning culture and the development of its point guards. Notably, he highlighted the progress made by Jamal Shead, who transitioned from a three-star recruit to excelling at the professional level. The new recruit believes that the program can similarly enhance his skills, providing him a strong chance to compete for a national championship alongside top talent.
“I like their winning culture and what they have done with their point guards,” He said on his commitment. “Jamal Shead is hooping in the league right now. For him to be a three-star coming out of high school and for the program to build him up to what he is now, I feel they can do the same with me. I will have a great chance of winning a national championship and I will be playing with the best people every single day.”
Standing at 6-foot-3 and known for his explosive playmaking ability, the point guard from San Antonio (Texas) Brennan chose Houston over Texas Tech after being impressed by the coaching staff’s vision for his role on the team. He appreciated how openly the coaches communicated their plans and how they continually discussed game strategies during the recruitment process.
“From day one they told me how they were going to use me,” He said. “We talk about anything. If I play a game and I ask about certain reads, we talk about it. That is what we have done throughout their time recruiting me.”
With this commitment, he joins fellow standout recruits, including five-star guard Isiah Harwell and three-star forward Bryce Jackson, forming a top-10 recruiting class for the Cougars.
As the recruiting efforts continue, Sampson and his team will turn their focus to strengthening the frontcourt, as they remain contenders for two top-10 national recruits, Chris Cenac and Koa Peat. In his outreach to these prospects, the new commitment encouraged them to consider how much Houston has developed its frontcourt players, citing J’Wan Roberts as an example of the program’s ability to cultivate talent.
