New York Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren missed Monday morning’s practice for maintenance reasons, according to reports. The absence comes at a critical moment for the Rangers (9-3-1), with a matchup against the Winnipeg Jets (14-1-0) looming on Tuesday night. Lindgren has participated in only eight of the team’s 13 games this season due to a preseason jaw injury.
This injury occurred after a fight with New York Islander Scott Mayfield, which sidelined Lindgren for the remainder of training camp and the first few games of the regular season. Lindgren suffered an uppercut during the fight, leading to his injury. Afterward, he has been wearing a full face shield and is currently adjusting his play style to accommodate the new equipment. “I had to get surgery on it,” Lindgren explained. “I’ve been skating for a while with the bubble on. I’m just getting used to it, and it feels good now.” Lindgren has been with the Rangers since the 2018-19 season, when he was acquired in a trade that sent forward Rick Nash to the Boston Bruins on February 25, 2018.
It took him just two years to break into the Rangers’ top four defensemen, becoming part of a talented young defensive group. So far this season, he has recorded one goal against Anaheim on October 26. In the previous 2023-2024 season, Lindgren played 76 games for the Rangers and accumulated 17 points (14 goals and three assists). While Lindgren was absent from practice, rookie defenseman Victor Mancini took his place.
Defensive Pairings at Monday’s Practice:
Mancini Fox
Miller Trouba
Jones Schneider
At just 22 years old, Mancini has already recorded four points in his debut NHL season. In nine games, he has registered three assists and scored his first NHL goal during a road game against Detroit. The Michigan native was selected 159th overall in the fifth round of the 2022 NHL Draft and signed his professional contract with the Rangers in April 2024.
The puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST on November 12, when Winnipeg faces off against the New York Rangers. The game will be available for streaming on ESPN+. Lindgren’s absence from practice on Monday may have been for maintenance purposes, so there is still a possibility he could make it into the Rangers’ lineup for Tuesday’s game, but only time will tell.
