Head women’s golf coach Tom McCurdy has announced the addition of a talented new player to the 2024-25 roster. Coach McCurdy is enthusiastic about integrating this skilled athlete into his team for the remainder of the season.
“The new addition is a very talented golfer with a strong junior golf record,” McCurdy stated. “She has a great mind for the game and will fit well with our program. I expect her to have an immediate positive impact this year.”
This player, hailing from Napier, New Zealand, will join the Shockers for the 2025 spring semester. She boasts an impressive average round score of 74 and recently triumphed in the 2024 senior women’s club championship in New Zealand.
Over the past year, she has secured victories in notable tournaments, including the Praparaumu Junior Open, Wellington Girls Matchplay, Feilding Golf Club Open, and the Manawatu District Stroke Play Championship.
This addition will mark her as the ninth and final Shocker on the 2024-25 women’s golf roster, and she will also be the fifth international player on the team this year.
The Shocker women’s golf team will kick off their spring campaign on February 3 at the Texas State Invitational in Blanco, Texas. The newly signed player is Kayla Van de Ven.
Rockford Christian bowler signs to Wichita State
Rockford Christian‘s star bowler Mats Tuneberg put pen to paper signing his national letter of intent to Wichita State University.
Tuneberg is one of Illinois‘ best bowlers and will join the country’s best collegiate bowling program. Wichita State is the country’s most accomplished bowling program with 24 national championships.
“It feels great, I mean, it’s been a long decision for where I want to go, but ever since I did the camp back, I think it was 2022, at Wichita, I’ve just loved the campus, loved the school, loved the team, and always wanted to go there,” says Tuneberg.
Tuneberg hopes to add to the Shocker’s trophy case during his collegiate career.
