Breaking Now: Auburn’s head coach Hugh Freeze echoes a familiar sentiment. legend are falling..

The Auburn Tigers struggled to convert scoring opportunities in their 17-7 defeat to the Vanderbilt Commodores, a recurring issue throughout the season.

Despite outgaining Vanderbilt 327 yards to 227, Auburn managed only 2-of-13 on third-down attempts and relied on punter Oscar Chapman six times. This is a familiar struggle for the Tigers, who have consistently failed to finish drives with points. Coach Freeze expressed his disappointment, saying, “We were just not able to finish. Whether it was ending drives with field goals or converting third downs, we battled with all of that today. I’m certainly disappointed we didn’t build on last week’s performance.”

On the defensive side, Auburn had a strong showing, limiting Vanderbilt to 227 total yards and just 95 in the second half. They contained the Commodores’ leading rusher, Sedrick Alexander, to just 28 yards, and leading receiver Quincy Skinner Jr. to 30 yards. “I thought our defense played their hearts out and performed well enough to win, probably better than anyone else against that team this year,” Freeze noted. With six losses, the Tigers are in a must-win situation if they hope to become bowl-eligible this winter. In their final three games, they will face two ranked opponents: No. 10 Texas A&M at home and No. 13 Alabama on the road. Auburn plans to approach these games one at a time. “One practice at a time, starting next week,” Freeze said. “

We won’t look too far ahead; it’s about stacking days to improve.” Despite having encountered numerous challenges this season, the Tigers remain determined not to give up. Staying focused in difficult circumstances can be tough for any team, but Auburn is committed to finishing strong. “I believe finishing is important in everything you do,” Freeze explained. “

It’s easy for people to lose motivation, but I’m proud of this team for not buying into that mindset.” Auburn has a bye week before they need to win three consecutive games to reach bowl eligibility. They will return to action against UL-Monroe in two weeks at Jordan-Hare Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 11:45 a.m. CT on SEC Network.
