Breaking: Chinese player Cui Yongxi makes NBA debut with Brooklyn Nets

Chinese player Cui Yongxi made his NBA debut on Sunday during the Brooklyn Nets’ home win against the Milwaukee Bucks, becoming the seventh player from China to play in an official NBA game.

The Nets won 115-102, earning their first victory of the season. Cui entered the game in the fourth quarter, scoring one point from a free throw during his 1:58 on the court.

His debut was the first by a Chinese player in the NBA in six years, joining notable predecessors like Yao Ming and Wang Zhizhi.

Reflecting on his experience, Cui remarked, “This initial moment feels similar to the preseason. I want to make the most of my time on the court. In the future, I might have more or less playing time, but my main goal is to fulfill my role effectively.”

At 21, Cui previously played for the Guangzhou Loong Lions in the CBA, attended NBA tryouts, and participated in the NBA Summer League. He subsequently signed a two-way contract with the Nets, which guarantees his first season.
