Golden Knights Sign Another Top Defenseman to a $51.9 Million Contract

The Vegas Golden Knights have taken a significant step to maintain one of the league’s top defenses. The franchise announced on Thursday that it has secured a standout defenseman with a new seven-year, $ 51.9 million extension.

This player is now tied to the Golden Knights organization through the 2031-2032 NHL campaign, with a cap hit of  $7.425 million when his new contract starts next season. He is earning $5.2 million in 2024-25.

After making his NHL debut with the Anaheim Ducks in 2015-16, he was traded to the Golden Knights as part of the expansion draft deal. Since joining Vegas, he has become an essential contributor to the team’s success.

Throughout his time in Vegas, he has recorded 67 goals and accumulated 296 points, making him the franchise leader in points among defensemen. His impact was especially notable during the Golden Knights’ journey to a Stanley Cup victory in 2023, where he tallied 13 points, finishing as the second-highest scoring defenseman of that postseason.

This season, he is off to a strong start, leading the Golden Knights’ defensive unit with seven points (one goal and six assists) in just six games. As of now, Vegas holds a 4-3-1 record, placing them second in the Pacific Division.

The player in question is Shea Theodore.
