SDSU linebacker Adam Bock makes his feelings clear about jackrabbit the defense

‘Always been hungry’ SDSU defense aims to continue success

The SDSU football team owns the fourth best scoring defense in the nation, allowing less than 15 points a game. The unit aims to get the team back in the win column.

“No matter if you’re a six-year senior like me or an incoming freshman, there’s a way to do things. Just kind of showing those younger guys what it takes to play great defense and pay attention to the details,” SDSU linebacker Adam Bock said.

SDSU’s loss to NDSU has dropped the Jacks two spots in the rankings.

“They were hungry as the number one team in the country, too. We’ve always been hungry and that’s kind of the mindset that we’ll continue to have,” SDSU defensive coordinator Jesse Bobbit said.

The mindset instilled by second-year defensive coordinator Jesse Bobbit has seen progress, especially in the young defensive group.

“The difference as we’re moving, we’ve had some injuries and the younger guys have been able to step in and be able to execute at just as high of a level. Being that it’s a year two, I don’t know if a year ago some of the guys in those backup positions maybe would have executed as high a level as they are now based off of being in year two,” Bobbit said.

The Jacks own the seventh best rushing defense in the country, allowing less than 100 yards a game.

“I think that’s always been kind of one of our strong suits is the run game and starts up front with the D-line, they’ve been great this year. And then just flying around at linebacker Graham Spalding, Caleb Francl, those guys that’s been one of the staples I feel like of SDSU being a really stout run defense,” Bock said.

SDSU allowed two passing touchdowns in the Dakota Marker loss. Now, the goal is to make moving the ball more difficult, specifically for opposing quarterbacks.

“And from a coaching perspective, we have to do maybe a better job disguising in certain situations, from man to zone and make it a little bit tougher on the quarterback to make certain reads,” Bobbit said.

SDSU will host the State-U matchup Saturday. Kick-off is set for 6:30 P.M.
