The Chiefs make a few roster moves ahead of their Week 8 matchup against the Raiders.
The Kansas City Chiefs are experiencing a busy week regarding roster transactions. With the November 5 trade deadline approaching, they acquired another talented star from the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday morning. This was not the only change the team made in preparation for their Week 8 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
On Tuesday, the Chiefs lost practice squad quarterback Bailey Zappe, who was signed by the Browns following Deshaun Watson’s injury. In response, Kansas City moved quickly to replace him with former Chief Chris Oladokun. Additionally, the team quietly re-signed wide receiver Cornell Powell to the practice squad.
This re-signing was facilitated by placing CB Jaylen Watson on the IR list and promoting Keith Taylor to the active roster.
Cornell Powell was drafted by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. In each subsequent year, he was waived before the season but returned to the practice squad.

Heading into the 2024 season, there was speculation that this might be the year the former Clemson standout would secure a spot on the 53-man roster. Powell had several impressive performances during the preseason, finishing with six catches on eight targets for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
Unfortunately for him, Powell was once again left off the roster.

The 26-year-old has only appeared in three games for Kansas City, contributing three offensive and 28 special teams snaps. He will be on standby for a chance to be elevated to the active roster. Given the injury challenges among the Chiefs’ wide receivers this season, Powell may finally see more opportunities.
