Purdue Football Loses Yet Another Significant Commitment from Three-Star Defensive Lineman

Purdue Football has suffered another setback with the loss of a commitment from the 2025 recruiting class. A three-star defensive lineman has re-opened his recruitment, marking the fourth player to decommit from Purdue in recent weeks.

This loss compounds the challenges facing Purdue’s 2025 recruiting efforts, as the Boilermakers now have only nine players in their class, which currently ranks 80th nationally and last in the Big Ten.

The defensive lineman, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound prospect from Cincinnati, Ohio, joins three-star offensive lineman Takhyian Whitset, three-star wide receiver Lebron Hill, and four-star cornerback Dawayne Galloway Jr. among the recent decommitments. Additionally, Purdue has lost a verbal pledge from four-star quarterback Oscar Rios in the 2026 class.

In his announcement made on social media, the player expressed gratitude: “I would like to thank the entire Purdue family that includes coaches, staff, current players, alumni, and anyone who was involved in my recruitment process to West Lafayette. Purdue is a first-class organization; I graciously enjoyed my journey.

“I come to my platform with a heavy heart. After several thoughtful conversations with my family, we have determined that I will be flipping my commitment from Purdue… I am officially reopening my recruitment.”  Drayden Pavey said

The announcement followed a disappointing 35-0 loss against No. 2 Oregon, leaving Purdue with a record of 1-6 for the 2024 season and 5-14 under coach Ryan Walters.
