Sacramento Kings Add 41% Three-Point Shooter Free Agent on New 1-Year Deal After Trading Jalen McDaniels.
The Sacramento Kings are actively reshaping their roster for the 2024-25 season, adding free agent sharpshooter Doug McDermott on a one-year contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
This acquisition follows the Kings’ trade of Jalen McDaniels (previously acquired from the Toronto Raptors) to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday.
Entering his 11th year in the NBA, McDermott played 64 games last season with the San Antonio Spurs and Indiana Pacers, averaging 5.5 points and 1.1 assists per game, shooting 41.0 percent from three-point range.
Throughout his 10 years in the league, McDermott has career averages of 8.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assists, with shooting percentages of 47.1 percent from the field and 41.0 percent from three-point land over 655 career games.
He is likely signed for the veteran’s minimum, counting approximately ** $ 2.09 million** against the Kings’ salary cap, as the team currently has 14 players under contract.
Adding Doug McDermott is viewed as a smart move for the Sacramento Kings, who have strengthened their lineup this summer by re-signing Malik Monk and Alex Len, and acquiring DeMar DeRozan via a sign-and-trade.
Sacramento has also released Harrison Barnes, Chris Duarte, Davion Mitchell, and Sasha Vezenkov, making McDermott’s acquisition particularly strategic, given that the 32-year-old is among the top outside shooters in the league.
McDermott is expected to play behind Keon Ellis, DeMar DeRozan, Malik Monk, Keegan Murray, and Kevin Huerter, who has recently been cleared after undergoing shoulder surgery last season.
