The Oregon Ducks traveled on the road and defeated the Purdue Boilermakers with a score of 35-0. Following the loss, Boilermakers’ coach Ryan Walters mentioned that Purdue faced “self-inflicted wounds” in his second game as play-caller. Coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks remain undefeated.
This victory marked Oregon’s first road shutout since 1992 at Oregon State. The Ducks took an early lead on their opening drive and maintained control throughout the game.

The Purdue Boilermakers were held scoreless by the visiting Ducks in a 35-0 defeat.
Postgame, Boilermakers coach Ryan Walters was asked about his team’s struggle to score.
“Especially early, we had self-inflicted wounds on early downs. I thought we were able to move the ball… but we had false starts or a missed read,” Walters explained. “Now you’ve got a third and long, and those are tough to convert against a talented team.”
Walters discussed possible reasons for the pre-snap penalties and how the team can improve.
“We were doing a lot of shifting and moving… Maybe we need to evaluate our cadence and how we can clean that up,” he noted.
Reflecting on his second game as the offensive play-caller, Walters said, “I felt comfortable making the calls I wanted. I’ll continue to get better. I’m very thankful for the offensive staff and the ideas they are presenting, but we had zero points today. Clearly, we didn’t do a good job.”
Despite amassing 301 yards of total offense, Purdue couldn’t find the end zone. After their Week 1 win, the team has now lost 6 straight games and sits at 0-4 in Big Ten conference play.
On the opening drive against the Boilermakers on Friday night, Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel connected with wide receiver Evan Stewart for a 49-yard completion, bringing Oregon into the red zone. A few plays later, running back Jordan James scored a touchdown.
Oregon added two more touchdowns to take a commanding 21-0 lead into halftime. From that point, the game was never in doubt, as the Ducks tacked on 14 more points and kept Purdue scoreless. Oregon improved to 7-0, while Purdue fell to 1-6 on the season.
“Certainly a lot of positives,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning stated after the game. “When you keep a team out of the end zone, that’s a positive, right? We’re able to create some takeaways, which is always a plus. But, we need to tackle better to become the team we aspire to be. Some of that showed up for us in the first half, and we need to improve.”
