The 2024-25 NBA season kicks off in Boston on October 22 with a rivalry game between the Celtics and Knicks. Before the game at TD Garden, the league’s current champions will receive their rings and raise Banner 18 to the rafters. As teams finalize their rosters for the upcoming season, the Knicks have made a trade with the Lakers, another major rival of the Celtics. The two teams completed a G League deal that sends the Returning Player Rights of Damion Baugh to the Westchester Knicks. In exchange, the South Bay Lakers received the Returning Player Rights to Joe Wieskamp and Westchester’s first-round pick in the 2025 NBA G League Draft (via the Iowa Wolves). Baugh, 24, played 37 games, including ten starts, for the South Bay Lakers during the 2023-24 NBA G League season, averaging 11.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 steals in about 27.4 minutes per game.
He played in the Summer League for the Knicks in Las Vegas, where he averaged 9.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.8 steals in 22.0 minutes over five games. Wieskamp, a 25-year-old, was selected 41st overall by the Spurs in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft after an impressive college career at Iowa, where he earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors. He most recently played for the Maine Celtics, leading them to their first G League Finals appearance. During the 2023-24 season, Wieskamp appeared in 44 showcase and regular-season games, including 13 starts, with the Maine Celtics and Texas Legends, averaging 11.5 points and 5.2 rebounds in 25.9 minutes. He started all five playoff games for the Celtics in the 2024 G League Playoffs, averaging 8.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 27.8 minutes per game.
