The Washington Capitals have unveiled several initiatives for their 2023-24 season Opening Night, presented by GEICO, on October 13. They will face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7:30 p.m. at Capital One Arena (available on ESPN+ and Caps Radio 24/7).
Rock the Red Carpet
Starting around 4 p.m., the Capitals 2023-24 team will arrive in Lexus vehicles on F Street, between 6th and 7th streets NW. Players will be introduced and escorted down the red carpet by selected fans, greeting attendees, signing autographs, and snapping photos. After the players, Capitals alumni, mascot Slapshot, and other special guests will also make their way down the red carpet. Monumental Sports Network will provide special pregame coverage from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., including player interviews and analysis, followed by a post-game show.
F Street Festivities
Festivities will include a street hockey rink and activities like face painting, tattoo art, and airbrushing. Capitals fans are encouraged to visit the Caesars Sportsbook booth between 3:30 and 7:00 p.m. for gameday giveaways, alumni meet-and-greets, and special offers. Fans can also check out the Monumental Sports Network booth for information about new programming and digital app offerings, along with chances to win exciting prizes.
Meet at the Metro with the Caps
On October 13, the Gallery Place-Chinatown WMATA station will host a Capitals takeover from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., featuring alumni, mascot Slapshot, and the ALL CAPS Crew hype squad.
All-Fan Giveaway
All attendees on October 13 will receive a 2023-24 schedule magnet and a light stick, courtesy of GEICO.
District Bites
District Bites, located in District E powered by Ticketmaster and adjacent to Capital One Arena in Gallery Place, invites fans to enjoy locally-sourced specialty dishes—ranging from Detroit-style pizza to handmade desserts—before and after the game. Happy Hour is from 4 to 7 p.m., offering $7 drafts and $10 appetizers.
Capital One Café
As the official Bank and Credit Card partner of the Washington Capitals, Capital One will celebrate the 2023 Home Opener at the Capital One Café in Chinatown, located at 732 7th Street NW, directly across from Capital One Arena. The festivities will take place from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on October 13, featuring giveaways and a meet-and-greet with Capitals alumni Peter Bondra and Alan May, among other activities. Additionally, from October 9 to October 13, fans can visit Capital One Cafés in Chinatown, Georgetown, or Anacostia for Capitals giveaways. Everyone is welcome, and Capital One cardholders can enjoy 50% off handcrafted beverages when they use their Capital One debit or credit card at any Capital One Café.
Capital One Cardholder Entrance
On October 13, the first 750 fans to enter through the dedicated Capital One Cardholder Entrance at 6th and F Street will receive a signed Tom Wilson player card. This entrance is exclusively for Capital One debit and credit cardholders, opening 15 minutes earlier than other entrances at 6:15 p.m. Cardholders should keep an eye out for additional exclusive experiences for Capitals games at www.capitalone.com/entertainment.
Dunkin’ Halloween-Themed Pep Rally
Dunkin’ will host a Halloween-themed pep rally at a yet-to-be-announced local Dunkin’ location to celebrate the Capitals and their Spider Donuts. This event will feature giveaways, gift cards from the Dunkin’ Prize Wheel, Halloween-themed donuts, and a special appearance by Dunkin’ mascot.
Team Stores
Make sure to visit the Team Store at Capital One Arena and the Team Store at MedStar Capitals Iceplex for the latest Capitals merchandise. The Team Store at MedStar Capitals Iceplex currently has select T-shirts starting at $5, sweatshirts from $25, and all Stadium Series jerseys for $25. On October 13, fans can also purchase Opening Day pucks, pins, and T-shirts at the Team Store in Capital One Arena.
