Ironton (Ohio) three-star cornerback Josh Johnson announced on Wednesday morning that he has decommitted from Louisville, a school he had been committed to since June 14. Johnson has received offers from several Power Five schools, including Penn State, Arkansas, Tennessee, Michigan State, Kentucky, and Iowa. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 185 pounds, he is ranked as the No. 946 overall prospect and No. 82 cornerback in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which combines data from all four major recruiting outlets. He is also rated as the No. 35 player in Ohio.
After much thought, prayer, and discussions with my family and coaches, I’ve decided that it’s in my best interest to decommit from the University of Louisville,” Johnson shared in his announcement on X. “I appreciate Coach Brohm and the entire Louisville coaching staff for their faith in me. I ask that you respect my decision.” Johnson recently visited Penn State over the weekend. “They see me as a defensive player who can make plays on the field,” he mentioned to BWI regarding the Nittany Lions’ interest.
Johnson was one of only two defensive back commits in Jeff Brohm’s 2025 recruiting class. With his decommitment, Louisville now has just 12 commitments this cycle, placing their class at No. 62 nationally, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. This makes it the second-lowest ranked class in the ACC, ahead of only California. Currently, Highland Home (Ala.) four-star EDGE C.J. May is the sole high-profile recruit in the class, rated as the No. 307 overall prospect and No. 31 EDGE in the country.
“Louisville has always been one of the schools I’ve been interested in since I was a kid, and now I get to explore it. Coach (Mark) Hagen has done a great job recruiting me, along with the rest of the coaching staff,” May said about Louisville before his commitment this summer. “Coach (Jeff) Brohm has also been wonderful in his recruitment. His son, Brady, and I have a close friendship; we text every day. It’s a nice city and a great place to be, and I think I’d feel comfortable playing there.” Cincinnati North Oldham three-star safety Micah Rice is now the only defensive back in Louisville’s 2025 class. Other notable commits include: Oxford (Ala.) three-star quarterback Mason Mims, Indianapolis Warren Central three-star EDGE Tyrone Burrus, Dacula (Ga.) Buford three-star wide receiver Jordan Allen, Palmetto (Fla.) three-star linebacker Caleb Matelau, and Goshen (Ky.) North Oldham three-star offensive tackle Gradey Anthony.
