The Lincoln County dirt racetrack, where a car crashed into the crowd on Friday night, is set to resume races this coming Friday. A representative from Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center reported that three individuals were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Ponderosa Speedway’s race director, Brad Ferguson, mentioned that the vehicle came within a foot of him. “I saw the car approaching, and when it flipped up onto the fence, it took me a couple of seconds to believe it had actually happened.
In my 40 years visiting over 250 racetracks across 23 states, I’ve never witnessed anything like that.” Ferguson indicated that they are raising the chain-link fence and installing new barriers along the back of the track. Additionally, they are relocating the driver team areas from where the incident occurred to different sections of the track. “We reached out to as many drivers as we could and visited a different nearby racetrack the following night to gather their opinions. Every driver we spoke with was in favor of racing again.”
