College GameDay is making history by setting up in Berkley for the first time ahead of Cal’s matchup with Miami, with guest picker Marshawn Lynch aiming to draw a large crowd for the early show.
Before the 2024 season, there were six Power 4 schools—Cal, Illinois, Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse, and Virginia—that had never hosted an episode of College GameDay. However, that number will officially reduce to five on Saturday as the crew heads west to the home of the Golden Bears.
The choice to visit Cal is somewhat surprising considering the team fell to 3-1 after losing to a struggling Florida State squad, which secured its first win of the season. Nevertheless, ESPN highlighted the effect the “Calgorithm” has had this year while also showcasing the No. 8 Miami team, which enters the ACC matchup as a 13.5-point favorite.
While Cal isn’t particularly known for producing NFL stars, it has given rise to notable players like Aaron Rodgers, Tony Gonzalez, and Jared Goff.
Marshawn Lynch, an alum, was the standout choice for guest picker, and College GameDay made the right call by selecting him for the role.
