Angel Reese loses £75,000 to Shaquille O’Neal in under 10 seconds, leaving the WNBA star red-faced. The Chicago Sky player wagered an impressive sum against the NBA legend.
Angel Reese, a rising star in the WNBA, challenged NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal to make a free throw for an impressive ** $ 100,000 (£75,000)**, only to watch in disbelief as he smoothly made the shot.
Both having ties to LSU, the duo share a close relationship, with Reese often calling the former Los Angeles Lakers superstar “uncle.” Their playful banter highlighted Reese teasing O’Neal about his notorious free throw record.
O’Neal, a four-time NBA champion and 2000 league MVP, had a career average of only 52.7% from the free-throw line. Unfazed by this statistic, Reese wagered a significant amount that he would miss their spontaneous shoot-out in the gym.
Reese, a crowd favorite at Chicago Sky, confidently challenged O’Neal: “** $ 100,000 if you make this shot**,” only to be left speechless as the former Miami Heat player effortlessly sunk the 15ft shot.
Fresh off a successful debut season in the WNBA, where she signed a four-year deal worth $ 324,383, Reese accepted her defeat with O’Neal. She captioned the video of their bet: “I guess I owe him 100K.”
Shaquille O’Neal quickly showed his skill with a remarkable shot after the wager.
Earlier, Reese expressed her sorrow after head coach Teresa Weatherspoon was let go from her position with the Sky following the team’s failure to secure a play-off spot. The power forward shared her feelings, stating: “I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me at such a pivotal point in my life. She was the only person who believed in me. The one who trusted me. Many don’t realize what it’s like to be a Black woman in sports when nobody believes in you.”
