Shaun Hobson will be out of action until at least next month due to a broken foot sustained earlier this week.
The Latics defender had to be assisted off the field during the second half of their National League Cup opener against Stoke City Under 21s on Tuesday, which Oldham won 2-1. After undergoing an X-ray, manager Mellon received the disappointing news that Hobson will be sidelined for a minimum of four weeks. Recovery from such injuries typically ranges from four to six weeks, with six weeks being more common depending on the severity of the break.
This setback is particularly tough for Hobson, a former Southend goalkeeper, who had been performing well in the back three after recently regaining his spot in the starting lineup. As the Latics prepare to return to National League play against Solihull Moors tomorrow (Saturday, kick-off at 3pm), they do have alternatives on the right side of defense, including Reagan Ogle and Will Sutton.
