Golden Bear 4-star commits makes honest admission to College GameDay coming to Cal

ESPN College GameDay has generated excitement on the University of California campus without yet officially arriving at the venue.

The buzz continues after the Saturday evening announcement that Miami will face Cal as the morning program’s next destination, marking the first time the popular pregame show will visit Strawberry Canyon.

This will be the first appearance of the show near the Golden Bears since 2015, although that event occurred before Cal’s game against Utah on the road in Salt Lake City. This time, the 5-0 and No. 8 ranked Hurricanes will be taking on 3-1 Cal, providing a significant opportunity for the latter to impact the national top 10 rankings.

It’s not just current students and alums who are energized by the arrival of College GameDay to Berkeley ahead of Cal’s first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference game. So are some future Golden Bears.

Bear Territory reached out to members of the 2025 recruiting class to gather their thoughts on the legendary show coming to Berkeley. One recruit already is energized to take in the atmosphere which will feature the likes of Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Lee Corso and company.

“I can’t wait to see the legendary show come to a legendary place! I will be up there this weekend and am sure it will be packed,” said Jae’on Young, the four-star ATH commit out of Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon.

Young, whose Trailblazers are 2-3 heading into Mission League play down in Southern California, loves the fact the university he’s committed to now gets its shine under the national scope.

“This highlights the significant progress that has been made and what is still in development. I’m eager for the exciting atmosphere on game day,” Young expressed.

Running back verbal commit Anthony League from Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan is also feeling the excitement from Cal’s big announcement.

“I’m Super Excited! I can’t believe it,” League said. “I’ve been discussing it with my dad every day!”

He mentioned that he is making plans to experience the College GameDay atmosphere and possibly attend the eagerly awaited Saturday game. Recently, he achieved 165 total yards and scored twice, both rushing and receiving, in the Rams’ 45-10 victory over Long Beach (Calif.) Wilson on Sept. 28.

League and Young are not alone in their excitement; Southern California recruits are also eager about College GameDay. Tre Harrison from Gardena (Calif.) Serra is sharing his enthusiasm as well.

“I’m extremely excited,” said Harrison, the safety commit. “The game was already significant, and College GameDay makes it even bigger!”
