Hamilton Tiger-Cats sign two, release two

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have added American receivers Isaiah Wooden and Daniel Arias to their roster. Wooden, who was with the B.C. Lions last month, was let go by the team on Monday.

The five-foot-nine, 170-pound player has previously been with the Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Chargers after going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. At 24 years old and hailing from San Diego, California, he concluded his college career at Southern Utah University, where he recorded 100 receptions for 1,726 yards and 20 touchdowns over two seasons. Additionally, he returned 14 kicks for 386 yards and earned All-United Athletic Conference honors in 2023, reportedly running a 4.38-second forty-yard dash and achieving a vertical jump of 44.5 inches at his pro day. Arias, a 26-year-old from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, has been associated with the Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs since not being selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he did not appear in any regular season games with those teams.

He played in 53 games at the University of Colorado, making 48 catches for 750 yards and four touchdowns. In related news, the Tiger-Cats have released American receivers Jordan Byrd and Jalon Calhoun. Byrd played in two games for Hamilton, returning five punts for 45 yards and five kickoffs for 117 yards. Previously, he was part of the Toronto Argonauts and Pittsburgh Steelers after a collegiate career at San Diego State, where he rushed for 1,353 yards and 12 touchdowns, alongside 47 receptions for 219 yards and one touchdown.

Calhoun joined the team’s practice squad last month but did not play in any regular season games. The 23-year-old signed with the Detroit Lions after going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft but did not make the final roster. He is a five-foot-eleven, 195-pound talent from Greenville, South Carolina, who played 61 games at Duke University, totaling 253 catches for 3,026 yards and 17 touchdowns, along with 26 kick returns for 258 yards. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (6-9) are set to host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (9-6) on Friday, October 4, with the game starting at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
