Virginia is on a bye week in Week 5 of the college football season, so it’s a perfect opportunity to review the season statistics from the first four weeks. We’ll highlight which Cavaliers are leading their team in various categories and those that are excelling in the ACC and FBS statistical leaderboards.
Starting with the quarterback, Anthony Colandrea has improved his completion percentage by more than six points, now at 68.3%, ranking fifth among ACC quarterbacks and 27th in the FBS. He has 84 completions, which is sixth in the ACC and 26th nationally. His 1,032 passing yards place him fifth in the conference and 22nd in the FBS.
Colandrea’s primary target, Malachi Fields, has 349 receiving yards, which ranks third in the ACC and 19th in the country. His 24 receptions are also third in the ACC and 29th in the FBS.
Xavier Brown had a standout game against Coastal Carolina, elevating his status on the rushing leaderboards. He averages 8.9 rushing yards per attempt, ranking third in the ACC and ninth in college football. Among running backs with at least 30 carries, Brown leads the ACC in yards per carry and is fifth nationally.
On the defensive side, Antonio Clary is excelling in his comeback season, leading UVA with 41 total tackles, which ranks eighth in college football, third among Power Conference schools, and first in the ACC. He also leads the ACC in assisted tackles with 28 and is tied for fourth nationally in that category.
Jonas Sanker, another safety for UVA, has 32 total tackles, second on the team, and is tied for eighth in the ACC. His 18 solo tackles rank tied for fourth in the conference.
James Jackson, a senior linebacker, has 30 total tackles, ranking 12th in the ACC, along with 18 assisted tackles, tied for seventh in the conference.
Daniel Sparks, the Virginia punter, averages 47.4 yards per punt, placing him 11th in the FBS and third in the ACC.
Will Bettridge, the kicker, has made eight field goals, tied for the most among ACC kickers and tied for seventh-most nationally.
