Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin intercepted Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence on Monday Night Football, a year and a half after he almost died on the field.
On January 2, 2023, Hamlin and the Bills faced the Cincinnati Bengals when he tackled Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, who struck Hamlin in the chest. After the tackle, Hamlin stood up but unexpectedly collapsed. A sports reporter from Cincinnati reported that “Hamlin has a pulse, but is not breathing on his own.”
Forty minutes later, the game was suspended due to the injury. After recovering, Hamlin returned for the next season but only played in five games.
This season, Hamlin has participated in all three of the Bills’ games and, notably during Monday Night Football at home, achieved his first career interception.

“Just a wonderful moment,” ESPN’s Chris Fowler said after he called the play. “Don’t have to be a Bills fan to appreciate this.”
