Baker Mayfield makes bold accusations against Tom Brady regarding their time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s clear that the team has a different atmosphere with Mayfield as the quarterback, compared to the three seasons under Brady’s leadership.
Mayfield has publicly acknowledged this shift, making significant claims against the former NFL superstar, who now works as a Fox Sports commentator.
Although Mayfield and Brady never played together as teammates in the NFL, Brady’s exit allowed Mayfield a fresh start with his fourth team, providing a crucial opportunity to resuscitate his professional career. Now, Mayfield seems ready to share insights about what life was like with his predecessor in the franchise.
“You hear some stories about Tom Brady not liking certain play calls during the week. If they were still called in the game, he might have had a throwaway on purpose, or thrown the ball at the running back or receiver’s feet,” Mayfield shared on the Casa De Klub podcast.
“There’s a lot of mind games going on.”
Mayfield also noted that those within the Buccaneers’ headquarters feel less stressed compared to when Brady was part of the team.
The results speak for themselves, as Tampa Bay reached the playoffs every season with Brady, winning the Super Bowl in 2021. In contrast, Mayfield’s first full season with the team ended in the Divisional round, where they lost to the Detroit Lions.
“The building felt different with Tom in it,” Mayfield remarked. “Playing-wise, Tom is a different presence. He kept everyone dialed in, creating a high-strung environment, which made things pretty stressful.”
Currently, Mayfield and the Buccaneers are performing well this season at 2-0, preparing to face one of the league’s weakest teams, the Broncos, at home on Sunday.
