On Tuesday, the Gonzaga University Women’s Basketball team shared a video in which head coach Lisa Fortier announced her diagnosis of breast cancer.
In the video, she disclosed that she was diagnosed with Stage 2 or 3 breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes earlier in February.
“Once our season ended, we shifted our focus entirely to my care,” Fortier explained.
She mentioned having undergone successful surgery in April and took some time over the summer to prioritize her health and come to terms with her diagnosis.
“My main takeaway so far is to appreciate every day. No matter my situation, I want to enjoy each moment at a place and with people I love,” she added.
Fortier confirmed her return to coach the GU Women’s Basketball team this season.
“We’re really looking forward to the upcoming season and wanted to share this news with you. I can’t wait to see you all out there, and thank you for your ongoing support,” she concluded.
