Tony Elliott Gives Injury Updates on Key Players Ahead of Maryland Game

As the Virginia Cavaliers prepare for their highly anticipated matchup against the Maryland Terrapins this Saturday, head coach Tony Elliott shared injury updates on several key players.

McKale Boley (Left Tackle)

Starting left tackle McKale Boley has been out for the first two games of the season. Elliott mentioned that Boley remains day-to-day, just as he did last week.

“Boley is day-to-day,” Elliott stated. “He’s moving around, so we’re hopeful we’ll get him back soon.”

In the meantime, former tight end Jack Witmer has stepped up admirably in Boley’s absence, allowing only one pressure over the first two games.

“I’m really proud of his commitment,” Elliott said regarding Witmer’s transition a year and a half ago. “His production during Boley’s absence has been impressive.”

Kam Robinson (Middle Linebacker)

In more promising news, sophomore linebacker Kam Robinson is not expected to be out for long after suffering a concerning knee injury during Saturday’s victory over Wake Forest.

“Kam is a bit limited,” Elliott noted. “We received positive results from all the scans, so it’s mainly about managing his pain tolerance. We’re optimistic for this week. He’s moving around and participating in almost everything today, though still a bit limited.”

“It appears to be a knee sprain,” he added. “We need to let it settle down. The scans looked good, but it’s always a bit nerve-wracking when someone goes down with a knee injury. Fortunately, the outlook seems positive, focusing on pain management now.”

Trey McDonald performed well after Robinson’s injury, even recording his first career sack on a pivotal fourth down in the second half. If Robinson has to miss the game against Maryland—likely the only one he would miss—the team is confident with McDonald and veteran James Jackson as strong alternatives.

Corey Thomas (Nickel Corner)

Nickel corner Corey Thomas also sustained an injury during the Wake Forest game. However, he is expected to return to the lineup on Saturday.
